Certificate in English for Academic Purposes

The Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (CEAP) aims to enable learners to progressively improve their English language competence from a basic to an advanced level. It addresses competencies that integrate situations, linguistic skills, and functions, as well as using technology to foster student autonomy.

The overarching goals are to expand the students’ critical thinking skills and develop the knowledge they need to meet the rigour of their education at Amity Global Institute, as well as the ability to access and use English-language education resources. Furthermore, it purposes to assure the progress and success of the students in Amity’s GCE O/A Levels Preparatory and Tertiary courses that use English as the medium of instruction.

Lastly, it provides students with English language skills and competencies necessary for employment locally and internationally as well as the preparation for undergraduate and postgraduate degree studies.

CEAP is a skills course with five modules where each module comprises two components i.e., Reading, Writing and Critical Thinking, and Listening, Speaking and Critical Thinking at different progressive proficiency levels.

Students are required to have successfully obtained a prescribed passing grade in a module before attending the next module.

Course Assessment

The student will be assessed through formative and summative assessments. These will include an assessment of reading, writing, listening, and speaking relevant to the level of study.

The types of assessments students will complete during the course may include tests, reports, proposals, giving presentations, leading and participating in group discussions, group projects, listening and note taking, and reading tasks.

Students who have completed this level can move on to the next level, Ceritifcate in English : Elementary, to improve their English proficiency.
